For months there was a genuine standoff in the group chat about how high off the ground this bed should sit. One camp wanted it low, moody, almost floor level, the kind of frame you see in a magazine and immediately forget is impossible to get out of after forty. The other camp wanted height, proper height, storage clearance, something you could sit on the edge of in the morning without your knees filing a complaint. Neither side was winning. Then one of us moved flats with exactly nine days notice and needed somewhere to put four boxes of winter coats and a broken lamp she refused to throw away, and suddenly the tall frame won by default because it was the only one with room underneath for the crisis. Nobody conceded anything.

Life just made the decision for us, which is honestly how most furniture arguments in this house end.

And it turns out the height argument was worth having, because getting in and out matters far more than any of us admitted before we actually lived with it. Low frames look sharp in photos and then you’re doing a sort of undignified roll to standing every single morning, which is fine at twenty six and genuinely not fine after a long weekend of moving boxes yourself. This one sits high enough that you can perch, plant your feet, stand up like a person rather than a beached seal.

One of us timed it, unscientifically, and got out of bed in about half the effort of the old frame. Nobody needed that number but we’re giving it to you anyway.

Underneath, it swallows things. Proper under bed boxes, the flat vacuum attachment, an entire off season wardrobe in vacuum bags that would otherwise live resentfully in a hallway cupboard. This is the bit that actually changed daily life rather than just the mood of the room. You stop seeing storage as a separate problem to solve.

The upholstery itself gets less agreement, obviously, because someone always thinks the fabric shows every mark and someone else thinks that’s what a damp cloth is for, and that argument is ongoing and will remain ongoing, we’ve made peace with that one staying open. But the headboard leaning back at just enough angle for reading in bed without a pillow avalanche, that’s not up for debate. Everyone agreed on that within about a week.

So yes, it’s an easy one for us, and not because it photographs well, though it does. It’s because getting up doesn’t hurt, the mess has somewhere to go, and the whole argument about how tall a bed should be got settled by circumstance rather than logic, which is frankly how most of our best decisions get made.
